Kailashgiri is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Visakhapatnam. This hill top park is famous for a massive 40 ft. tall statue of Lord Shiva and Parvati. Kailashgiri offers a panoramic view of the sea. Some of the other attractions in Kailshgiri are a Floral Clock ā One of the biggest clocks in the country with a diameter of 10 feet, Titanic View Point ā Offers a spectacular view of the sea and the hills, Toy Train and a ropeway that takes visitors to the top of the hill from the road.
Simachalam is a renowned Hindu temple dedicated to the Narsimha Avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu. It is located on a hill top 18 kms from Visakhapatnam.Simachalam Temple exhibits a mix of Orissan and Dravidian styles of architecture. This temple has Sri Varahalakshmi Narsimha Swamy as the presiding diety. The deity is covered in sandalwood paste all-round the year except for 12 hours when he gives ānirjaroopa darshanā ā holy appearance in true form.
The Ramakrishna Mission Beach, popularly known as the RK Beach is one of the most popular beach parks in Visakhapatnam attracting a large number of visitors. Swimming, Sunbathing and Surfing are some of the popular activities on the beach. An aquarium, Submarine Museum, Visakha Museum, War Memorial and a number of roadside restaurants offering sea-food are lined up along the beach.
India's only submarine museum - the INS Kursura is located on the Beach Road in Visakhapatnam. The INS Kurusura is originally a decommissioned submarine developed into a museum and open for public.It was a Russian built submarine fabricated in 1969. After serving the navy for about 31 years, it was turned into a museum in 2001.It is the first submarine in Asia that has been turned into a museum and the second in world. This museum gives a sneak peek of the way a submarine works during war.
The Visakha Museum is primarily a historical one that houses the historical treasures of the āVizagapatamā district of the Madras Presidency of the pre-independence era. It is located on an Old Dutch bungalow on the RK Beach. Some of the notable items on display here are ā A collection of photographs of Gandhiji, especially the ones clicked on his visit to Vishakhapatnam, A 250-lb bomb dropped by the Japanese during the World War II that never exploded, A 30ā search light reflector used by Vasco-da-Gamaās Ship on his maiden voyage to India, Ancient armoury and life size portraits of the royal family of Vizianagram &Bobbili.
